Transmission issue involving an SLT Solenoid failure that is Identical to another 06 DC owner who titled their problem "clunking at stop", fault code p2714 / slt solenoid.
I've owned this truck since new in Oct '06. After shifting truck into drive, the transmission would not engage and the engine would not rev while in Drive. I've since learned that this is a "safe mode" triggered by the SLT Solenoid low pressure fault code. The transmission eventually engaged with an abrupt movement. However, at each subsequent stop on the way home the safety mode would return.
Truck was taken to Toyota the next morning and drove fine. The pulled the codes and found the P2714 had tripped. However, the Service Advisor stated that Toyota no longer services transmissions and the only repair they could offer was a new transmission installation for $5,025. No thanks... not when it's just a bad solenoid that can be accessed using the transmission filter cover.
Like the other owner with the "clunking issue" leading up to the transmission failure, our Toyota dealership/service department for the past 15 years or so would only use an evacuation system to service the transmission and had performed that service last at 98,000 miles. So, 12,000 miles later (theirs was 8,000 miles later), the SLT solenoid failed after contaminants were ingested.
A local transmission shop could only obtain the part from Toyota and billed $330 for the part against a total repair bill of $630 that included a full transmission service / flush with new filter, gasket and fluid.
Given that Cobb County Toyota is no longer doing repairs and simply does Remove & Replace work, we'll now have our Toyota truck serviced at Alan Cox Automotive. Pretty sad situation.
