I purchased the used truck from Toyota Dealer located in New Orleans. The engine light turned on the next day that indicated the dealer reset the engine light before selling the truck. When I had is looked at one of the local shops, they told me the Charcoal Gas Canister will need to be replaced - an expensive repair. I contacted Toyota company about their dealer appeared to reset the light before selling the used truck. Toyota corporate customer relations issued me a case number, and contact the dealer in New Orleans. I made several attempts, but no return call from the dealer, and my truck could not past smog in California. I gave up.

Lately, I blasted Toyota on facebook, and now the old case number was resurrected. The local dealer ran the diagnostic, and determined the Charcoal gas canister will need to be replaced. I mentioned to the service writer to send their estimate (fax number provided and case number). I am hoping Toyota can help me resolved the issue. I will keep you posted on my experience.

FYI - the experience technician commented to me it is very rare to have an engine light turn on at 34,000 miles.

Update from Sep 21, 2015: The total repair cost was $1,472 at the dealer, but Toyota Corporate paid 50% of it. Unfortunately, the dealer sent the Charcoal Canister to Toyota instead of me trying to find out. Now, my truck smog should pass in California. However, the issue did not address the New Orleans dealer resetting the check engine light on the used truck, where my wife did notice it the next after driving it off the lot the previous day.

I know this canister must be an issue, and I wished I had the part.
