My 2008 Toyota Tundra is having starting problems. Has to crank it over 10 times before starting. Is this a problem with these vehicles? Got it diagnosed with starter problem, change starter and still having the same issue. Now it has shut down completely and won't start!

The issue started with turning the key to start, and no noise or attempt to turn engine. The lights were bright on dash, and backing off to acc or off, then reattempt started the car on second or third attempt. I noticed that the RED Security light (center dash next to clock) appears to flash when this occurs.

Took truck to shop, they wanted to go after the starter at $802. While in the shop, they discovered that a bushing had been installed over the negative terminal when the cable end was replaced in January and the terminal was too big for the battery post. They removed bushing, and made adjustments to the cable end.

All seemed normal far a week, then it began to fault. At first, it was one attempt, then two, now three to four before starting. Battery and charging circuit were checked and cleared.

My thoughts were it is either a loose connection to the ignition switch, or to the computer, shop says they have seen starters cause this. If a starter has an issue isn't it mostly works or doesn't, but doesn't normally come back from not working on its own?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

I took my Tundra to the dealer today for an oil change and get a call from the dealership, "there's a problem, your starter just went out". Well hell! How convenient. I am told there is no warning on this by Toyota techs. They just stop. How convenient for those at Toyota that work off of commission. My starter goes out at the damn dealership and has to be replaced as it now doesn't work. 1,000 bucks! I was and am highly pissed off and can assure all that read this that I will definitely no longer take my Toyotas to this dealership. Am I wrong? Or are they right and this just happens with absolutely zero issues or warning signs? My truck has always run perfectly. Thanks for listening and responding.
