Tundra 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 70,000 miles

I always bought Toyotas, bought 5 so far. My Tundra had 70 K miles when air injection failed. Dealer quoted me $5000. I had it fixed, called Toyota Head quarters to help with repairs, they didn't care.

Tundra 4.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 96,500 miles

My Trac Off and check engine lights both came on in my 2012 Tundra. Took it to the Auto Zone and they gave me a code P2440 for the problem which read "secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open Bank 1". I called the local Toyota Dealer and told a repair rep the code and asked if there was a recall for this situation and he said NO. I asked about a guess-timation of cost to fix the problem and was told somewhere between $1200 and $2400. Naturally I was ticked off.

I told the repair rep I would call around to see prices from other places. The rep told me just remember if we repair it we will use TOYOTA Parts and I was wanting to say TOYOTA parts are what just failed. I always took care of my truck and we have owned several Toyotas but if Toyota is not going to take care of this problem there are plenty of other vehicles to choose from. I do not like the way our world is lately but I have to admit right now I wish Cancel Culture would Cancel Toyota.

Update from May 29, 2022: It cost me $3006.56 to fix the problem. I wrote a letter to Toyota telling them the cost to fix the problem was six times any other repair I ever had for any vehicle I owned which included any Ford, Chevy, Plymouth or Toyota. Than one day a rep from Toyota Headquarters called me. He said since I was a Loyal Toyota owner he would like to offer me $500 for any future repairs I have on either my Tundra or my Rav 4. I would have to pay and send the repair order and receipt to Toyota Headquarters and they would send me a check. I told the rep I appreciate it and will accept it but if any class action is started because of this failure I will make sure to pursue it to receive the full $3006.56 back. He said that would be fine and has nothing to do with the $500 offer. Good luck to anyone else that has this problem,

Tundra 4.6L V8

  • Automatic transmission
  • 59,000 miles

Secondary air injection system failed June 2018. Vehicle went into limp mode on highway, a dangerous situation as you go from 70 to 30 MPH rather suddenly. Alamo Toyota dealership in San Antonio stated code PO418 and needs to have air pumps and valves replaced. Cost estimate of $3362.57.

Toyota has acknowledged this is a design problem on certain Toyota Tundras but fails to recognize this is an issue on the 2012 4.6L V8 models. Toyota needs to take responsibility that this is still an issue with the 2012 4.6L V8 models.
