The contact owned a 2007 Toyota Yaris. While driving approximately 70 mph, the contact noticed an orange glow under the hood of the vehicle. The contact opened the hood and noticed the electrical wires on the firewall burning, producing small flames. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The contact exited the vehicle and was unable to extinguish the flames. The vehicle exploded into a ball of flames. There were no injuries. The local police and fire department arrived at the scene. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and stated that an investigation would be conducted. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

Exhaust is extremely loud on Yaris during acceleration and causes the interior cabin to smell. I had a friend look at the exhaust for a leak and all he could find is a shredded gasket. The exhaust was in excellent shape and showed no damage or corrosion. Internet searches have revealed that the gasket on the 07 Yaris is poorly designed and several people are affected by this.

The check engine light on my manual-transmission 2007 Toyota Yaris will intermittently come on for a period of several hours up to several days before shutting off. This has been occurring for several months now. Sometimes when the light is on, the car accelerates on its own. It also may stall, or the engine will rev really high without the gas pedal being touched. I brought it to a mechanic that replaced one of the sensors, however the problem persists.
