problem #1

Apr 122010

Yaris 1.5L

  • Manual transmission
  • 80,000 miles

The Keyoff vapor recovery fuel tank neck covers we manufactured defectively. See Toyota TSB048-07. The first time the car was driven on the freeway for two hours in a rainstorm it filled the charcoal canister with water when shut of a reststop. This is a $1200 repair.

Toyota had made a manufacturing change but elected not to correct the problem on in service cars.No offer of under warranty OR at customer cost update to avoid a failure. The car was in the dealership for major service and no offer was ever made to avoid this impending failure even though it was well documented and known. I believe that this goes directly to a inset Corporate Culture of a lack of integrity.
