Yaris S 1.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 65,000 miles

Every morning winter or summer, I have to wait for my car to warm up in order to drive it up the road if I want to go more than 25 mph. The transmission does not want to go out of first gear until the car is at a certain temp. I can't go up a road that is 35-45 mph if I just started my car, otherwise there would be a lot of upset people behind me because I can't go fast until the car warms up. The dealer tells me that is common for any Toyota car as they make them that way to ensure they last as long as they do. You should never just get in your car and go. It needs to warm up and get fluids to the proper temperature. Is this a crock because I see other complaints and no one has mentioned that the dealer says this car should act this way and this is normal?

Yaris 1.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,195 miles

Toyota Yaris transmission not shifting from 3rd when oil is cold, see the yellow light on the left side of the board. The Motor can run up to 4500 RPM in winter and the transmission will hardly shift or simply not. I have never driven this way. Other cars are lining up behind me, this is very embarrassing. We purchased this car last summer. Our dealer told us this is normal. In fact this is not as you can see.

I am looking for a solution....like bypassing a probe or to add a jumper somewhere.

Any idea?

Yaris 1.5L 4 cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,600 miles

When the engine is cold, and I start driving, the transmission will not shift into overdrive, it just screams in third, which is embarrassing considering everyone around my neighborhood thinks I'm driving a stick and I dont' know how. HA! Anyway, I was told this is normal for the car and I'm sure it is, but it's very annoying. Also, if your just kind of floating the gas pedal when maintaining about 30 mph, it will sporadicly shift up and down between overdrive and third, as if it can't decide which gear to go in. I believe that this is just the shifting point and I'm riding right on that line, but it also is very annoying. Again, this problem probably won't cause any mechanical problems in the future, but if your looking to buy a Yaris just know that it has it's many quirks.
