Beetle GLS

  • Automatic transmission
  • 135,500 miles

I was driving home from school when I tried to stop my car to prevent an accident, but i had no brakes! With my foot pressed down on the floor I smashed into the guy in front of me. After a week of having it at a local mechanic, they can't identify the problem, they say my brakes are fine.

So after almost two weeks of sitting there we ship it to the closest Volkswagen dealership, for them to tell us what happened. I recently found out that they also have no idea what happened! Apparently it is the first car they have ever seen do this. The computer they hooked it up to is saying i have no brakes what so ever, but my brakes are working.

On the last day my Baby bug is at their dealership, they also get it to fail the same way it did for me! But still they have no answers, they are baffled by my mysterious on again off again failing brakes. their solution replace the computer and cross our fingers that it takes care of the problem! Thats not good enough; so now my car is totaled, i have no car, and still no answers!

Beetle GLS 2li

  • Automatic transmission
  • 79,000 miles

I have had my car for a year and it has just about fallen apart. I made sure to get oil changes regularly(needs to be changed more often than most cars), got tune-ups on time, I did everything for this car. At 70,000 miles the timing belt needed to be changed. At 78,000 miles the spark plug wires, air decompression, brake pads, brake something else, and wheels needed to be changed. When I asked if I should even keep my car they told me 1998-99 Beetles have a good amount of problems ahead of them. It would end up costing me thousands to keep it. Most of my friends have VW that they hardly take care of and they run great. I would not recommend this year of this model. Besides what went wrong with it at 78k, a few months before I pain 1,200 in work done to my Bug. I have put a lot of love into my car, but the repairs are so costly, I have to sell my buggie this week. :'(
