My father whos 80 years old has been an owner of Volkswagen Beetles since buying his first 1962 Volkswagen in 1965. About seventeen months ago he purchased the New Beetle (1999 2.0, Black VW Beetle). He fell in love with it immediately. It had less than 30000 miles when he brought it and was clean. Two month after owning it he began having problems. First it was things like brake light bulbs kept blowing out. First the left then the right. Next, after driving home from church one hot summer evening the air condition, horn, windshield wipers and headlights stop working. Two month later it ran hot and was in the shop to have sensors, radiator fan and cooling flange replaced. Two months later the passenger side window regulator had to be replaced then, less than a month later he notice the temperature light would come on red after starting the car up. This time the repair shop says the water pump needs to be replaced. The car has less than 52000 miles on it. Should he be having all these thing go wrong already and if so have any of them been recalled? I also have owned many of the older Volkswagen Beetles and in 2005 purchased my first New Beetle. Recently I experienced the same brake light bulb problems that my father experienced. The Brake light problem appears to be in the wiring because although the brake light bulb doesnt work when you check the bulb, the bulb is good. Then has happen on both the left and right brake light. I have not had any of the other problems yet but it looks like Im well on my way.
Please let me know where I can send my fathers repair receipts to see if some of the work he has had done above is under warrantee or has been recalled.
