While driving on a highway at 65 miles per hour, I attempted to turn the cruise control off. It did not go off. Then I applied the brakes and the brake pedal went all the way to the floor with no tension. There was no braking action at all. I drove along some grassy areas on the side of the highway to slow the car, turned off the ignition because the car was no decelerating, and hit a tree at about 50 mph. The airbags did not go off. The car was totalled. The car was sold to a junk yard because the repair costs were too high and because the repair facility said they could not determine why the cruise control and brakes failed.

During cruise control operation, cruise control disengages, then reengages when vehicle strikes a ridge or hole in the road. On one occasion, the cruise control failed to reengage when passing through casual water on the highway.

I bought a Volkswagen beetle on the 12th of June before we went on vacation. We traveled 860 miles one way. The cruise light would never come on, not even when you started the vehicle. Anyway we could go anywhere from 10 miles to 100 miles and the cruise would automatically kick off, jerking the car. We called our dealer immediately but he could not help. When we got back from vacation we took it up there. They said that it was supposed to do that. Also in the manual it says that there is supposed to be a fuse for cruise: There is not one. They test drove another one that was on their lot and that cruise light didn't work either. I'm just wondering is there a recall on this or how can someone fix it.

Problem with the 'engine check light'. first came on at about 3K miles. Dealer spent four hours and made a comment about the fault code being associated with the idle speed (yeah right). They fooled with it, reset the computer and sent me away. Now it's back on again. I have noticed that the light goes out but then re-appears again. It's back to the dealer again. If anyone has an absolute solution, I'd love to know so I can tell the dealer what to look for.
