My car burns a quart of oil every 500-1,000 miles. This problem advanced rapidly, going from a quart in 5,000 miles to every 500/1,000 miles within a 6-month period or so. When I accelerate quickly I can see a cloud of black smoke behind the vehicle. I took it to a specialty shop and was told that some 2.0 TSI engines have bad piston ring design, which results in this excessive consumption.
There is no solution other than a new engine or a rebuild.
