tires cupping
I purchased this vehicle used certified from a VW dealership, I did research and felt fairly good with choice,(no reviews about tire cupping/ chopping, till after purchase and further review research) was told when I ask if this vehicle had any past problems, issues and by salesperson and finance guy , it was certified and that the previous owner was in fact the owner of the VW dealership, and no issues with this vehicle.
The 1st service since ownership (scheduled was 30,000) oil change , check fluids, and tire rotation.....never told of tires being cupped when rotated by service department, drove away and returned to dealership after a few miles with complaint of BAD road noise, and BAD vibration under 30 MPH and when stopping, was told by service advisor, need to replace tires 4 and have an alignment ??? The tires still had a couple of years driving tread ??? The recommended tire are pricey $250-$300+ each !!!
Was also told to contact the VW America to complain and most likely the would issue a 1 time voucher for 2 tires......REALLY.............what about the next 10,000 miles when new tires go bad for same bad designed suspension ???
Update from May 27, 2016: Tire issue (cupping/ chopping rear inner), VW blames it on "AUTOBAUN" suspension ???
Update from Dec 18, 2016: VW states it's set up for AutoBahn, great a car made for american roads, can't drive 100+ as in Germany, wish I could, so why sell a car set up for high speed driving and sell it in America ???, seriously VW take care of your American customers...not excuses !! tires at $200+ each every year is not an option we can afford !!
Update from Apr 21, 2018: Just replaced with Michelin tire at a cost $1.020 for 4 tire, old tire had bad cupping inside rear tires to a point of metal tread showing, I now see where a class action suit has been filed in Florida and one other state !
