Last week, while turning into our driveway, the steering wheel made a sound like rubber grinding. Immediately, an error message appeared indicating an airbag failure. The following day, while driving on a 4-lane highway, another vehicle began a lane change while I was in its blind spot. I applied the brakes, and attempted to sound the horn to alert the other motorist to avoid collision, however the car's horn failed. The accident was avoided, but the experience was unnerving. My wife took the vehicle to a local VW service center on 10/5/18, and was told the failure was related to an issue with the clock spring, a repair which she was told was uncovered by recall. We were a little suspicious, because the dealer had just performed a takata airbag recall service in February, then today we received another recall notice regarding the airbag but not this related issue. Some investigation in online publications like forbes, indicated that there was a recall for the clock spring in 2015, with this vehicle listed in the model list and production dates. However, VW does not list this recall under our VIN number. Again we are suspicious. It is our feeling that the failure of the clock spring, affecting the safety features of the driver's air bag and the car horn (the horn is not broken, the clock spring is), poses a motorist safety risk to this and other vehicles in traffic.

Initially, the left front and rear lights stopped working. After a day, the started to work again. A week later almost all exterior lights and indicators ceased working. This was the case when the car was moving and stationary. I took the car to the VW dealership and they fixed the problem. The issue was a melted fusebox.

While my wife was driving home from work last night on a dark curvy two lane road, the right front headlight, fog light, marker light/signal, right rear tail light/brake light/signal, third brake light, and strangely the left front side maker, all went out at once. Only the daytime running lamp, side marker light, and mirror signal light were still functional on the right side of the car. When she parked in the driveway I checked the fuses and found the 30-amp fuse at the rear of the under hood fuse block was very hot but not blown. When I wiggled it all the affected lights came back on. I then removed the fuse and the plastic around the terminal that was towards the passengers side of the car was melted. The fuse block itself also suffered some melting at this terminal. The 30-amp fuse was not blown so I know power didn't exceed the capacity of the fuse that is the correct size/rating for that location. After some research I am finding that this potential fire hazard and confirmed safety hazard is more common than I would like to see. She is now afraid of driving her car at night in fear that all lights will go out and cause her to get into an accident either from her leaving the road due to poor lighting or getting hit by another vehicle due to inoperable tail lights. Any info or assistance would be greatly appreciated.

The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Eos. While driving the vehicle, it independently shifted into neutral. The anti skid control warning indicator illuminated. The vehicle was able to be operated by restarting the vehicle numerous times. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the vehicle had a master computer error and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. In addition, the vehicle also experienced a complete loss of power. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the failure was a transmission malfunction. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 68,000. Updated 06/15/16 the consumer stated the master computer was repaired. However, two months later, the problem resurfaced again. After the transmission gear box was repaired, the cruise control stopped working. Updated 06/27/16.
