This is more of a heads up to people, that are trying to figure out why their VW alarm goes off randomly, say in the middle of the night or when you're away for the weekend as it happened to me. Since there is no way to lock the car without having the alarm set, you can't lock your car even if you know your battery is low, but you have something in it. I think using the same alarm that you are being burgalized as notifing you that your battery is low confuses a lot of people. (reason for this post)
