The plastic coating on much of the interior scratches very easily (bumping it with your fingernail). Having spoken with a couple dealer mechanics and a number of independent shops, you will want to make sure that you do not buy a Brazilian made MK4 Golf (1999-2004) as there are a number of quality issues that have arisen as these vehicles age. I was told that you can identify these cars by the leading 3 letters of the VIN, specifically "9BW". YMMV (Your mileage may vary).
