7 months ago I bought this car, I was very pleased with it. Fast forward to 3 days ago I was driving it and it started losing power, wouldn't accelerate and then the glow plug light started flashing. I pulled over and turned the car off and gave it a minute to cool down and then tried to start it again - no luck. I then tried getting a jump start - also no luck. So I had no other choice but to get it towed to the local dealership. It being the weekend I wasn't able to get someone to look at it until Monday. I was told the high-pressure fuel pump had degraded and sent metal filings through the whole fuel system and that it would cost a whopping $8000 to get a repair. I then discover that I haven't been the only one with an issue like this and it seems VW is blaming it on bad diesel - the only thing is there is no issue that the fuel went in.

I discovered that a family member of one of my good friends had the same issue with their vehicle and I was able to discover numerous other examples of this problem being reported online in the last few months and years... Something needs to be done about this. After they forked over this huge sum of money they were told that they should be adding additives into their fuel to prevent this from happening in the future - yet there was not a single point in my purchasing experience that I was told I needed to put fuel additive in my car to prevent the chance of an $8000 service bill.

Action needs to be taken against this and reparations need to be paid to those who have had issues with this.

Car went in for scheduled maintenance and the fuel gauge didn't work. Got a phone call asking if we accidentally put in gasoline instead of diesel. No we didn't plus if we did it wouldn't have been running anymore. Metal shards/shavings were found in the fuel filter. Why were they checking the fuel filter anyway??? We came in for scheduled maintenance and the fuel gauge wasn't working. Car was running fine. Dealership had to consult head office re metal in fuel filter. Head office came back with the following: High pressure fuel pump was in the process of failing and it plus all the fuel lines have to be replaced at a cost of $10000 canadian dollars. This is not part of the drivetrain warranty.

Have been on the internet and it appears this is a problem with the new TDI engines models 2009 and up including the Audi A3.
