2013 Golf TDI Wagon , sunroof leak and has damaged extensively the carpet, underlay, mold apparently has developed. Contacted dealership where car was purchased (Ontario Canada) and was told that I would have to pay the costs for repairs.

On further investigation I found out that this has been a problem with the sunroofs for a long time and that there had been a class action suit in the USA over the same issue. Called VW Canada and they promptly told me that repairs would not be paid by them and what ever happened in the USA on recalls or law suits did not apply here. I then informed both the dealership and VW Canada that I would get advice from a lawyer, ask for help from an ombudsman, and put it in the papers.

Apparently according to the class-action suit in the US. Dealers new of the problems but failed to let the customers know. I have checked all my maintenance records from the dealer and no where does it state that they had even checked the sunroof for any debris or cleaned out the drainage tubes.

The dealership has comeback with an offer to reduce repair bill from the 2800. to $1400 Canadian which is better than nothing at this point in time. Asked them to provide me with a warranty on new Sunroof, pictures of the damage done to my vehicle and a written quote with the new amounts. Which I am waiting for.

This is my rant. Hope it helps other buyers who want sunroofs buyer beware.
