Golf Alltrack S 1.8L Tfsi

  • Automatic transmission

Into service 2-27-20, remaining Warranty period of 6 yrs closing in. Pondering a fresh trade-up as unit is fairly pristine and low mileage; then... Three days ago TU 4-8-25, enroute to Wally, seems to lack power, note EPC code on dash, shut it off. Quick Google search reveals nothing good - myriad problems possible and vehicle reverts into 'limp mode'. Restart unit exiting Wally, no code, drive home cautiously, call local Independent, invites me over to scan it. He does so and reveals to me residual code P256300 (Turbo VGT WASTEGATE boost control sensor) and U010100 (Lost TCU Module), which I noticed DSG trans reluctant to downshift earlier. Go home absent EPC light, ran fine.. Test drive later, EPC light on again, limp mode cautiously back home, ring closest Dealer Grand Junction VW, and Roadside Assistance (Pay $ / Reimburse later) then a local dude less dinero but still $400 / 65mi.. He fetches it Wed 4-9 and runs it down to GJ and is delivered mid AM.

Running intel all this with EMICH VW folks in Denver (Unit Purchased there) very helpful; but are 275 miles away. Also very noteworthy I find upon carcomplaints.com ref: VW CLASS ACTION JUDGEMENT memo of 3-13-25 about WASTEGATE FAILURES, various years, AUDI's too, and Category 1,2,3. 15 to 19 Alltracks are in Cat 3; who knew? No doubt Global Recalls Pending. My outcome pending and TBD, UNIT DOWN BIG TIME PITA. NHTSA PLEASE!!! get my unit VIN on your list if it isn't already? Other VW OWNERS ON NOTICE.

Update from Apr 19, 2025: Epilogue '19 Alltrack S, 28Kmi: Unit comes back up TH 4-17 at local GJVW thanks, wastegate actuator and igniton switch Recall cleared out. I don't even drive it nor do I want it back; having reservations all was not corrected. Dealer likes it at Fair Market avg value 18K and unit finds its way onto Invoice - Trade-in promptly toward '25 Subie Xtrek 2.5 NO TURBO and VW NO MO either. Shred GLOBAL Recall when I get it and ADIOS DUB.
