Golf SportWagen TSI 1.8L

  • Manual transmission
  • 25,000 miles

I just became aware after receiving my 2017 Golf Sportwagen from the dealer 30K inspection. On their multi-point inspection, they listed my tire pressure as 36 psi. I checked it and all 4 tires were at 20 psi exactly. I called the dealer, saying that my TPMS, did not light the tire icon on the dash. He said that could happen, because all 4 tires were under-inflated the same. I said I want to bring in my car to have my tires brought up to recommended pressure. He informed me that it would be $60.00, and was not covered under my maintenance agreement. For two years, I had been bringing my car in for its yearly maintenance.

My dealer never replenished the nitrogen in my tires over a 2 year period. Because I was never billed for nitrogen replenishment. The owners manual is very misleading. I thought I had the conventional TPMS system, with a pressure transmitter in each tire. What I have is, "Indirect TPMS", system. And it does not monitor tire pressure, but tire rotation speed. Bottom line: Check your tire pressure regularly, with a good quality tire pressure gauge, not matter who tells you what the pressure is.
