About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
I bought this car brand new in 2022. My car has approximately 13,000 miles of use. It has been used for normal commute with an average use of 25 miles round trip 2-3 times per week in the last year. It was used less frequently in the 1st year. The front tires are shredding from the inside area and the rear tires are going bald.from both edges. I took the car to.a VW dealership and I was told the tires must be replaced to avoid an eventual blow out from any/all 4 tires.

I recently did a 20,000 miles service on my vehicle and was told the Bridgestone Alenza tires I have on the vehicle are at a level unsafe to drive - under 3/32. These are the tires that came with the vehicle. The VW person informed me that these tires are unfit for an EV and VW stopped installing them. I reported this to a friend who has the same car but with 16,000 miles, he got the car checked, and got the same answer- unsafe to operate. There are potentially tens of thousands of ID.4 vehicles out there that came out in 2021 and 2022 that have these tires on, driving on tires that are unsafe to operate because nobody expects tires to be that bad after less than 20k miles. These should be recalled. I have reported this to VW customer service. VW is unwilling to take any responsibility for this issue. They told me to go talk to the manufacturer (Bridgestone).
