The contact owned a 2023 Volkswagen ID4. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle and attempting to remove the key from the ignition the vehicle erroneously accelerated forward driving over a curb and crashed into a traffic pole. The vehicle continued to accelerate forward into an intersection and crashed head-on into a second vehicle. During the crash, both vehicles were destroyed. The driver sustained a left arm laceration from the air bag deploying. The front passenger sustained a left arm laceration and abdomen contusion. The dog located in the rear passenger seat sustained an eye injury. All required medical treatment. No injury was reported from the second vehicle. A police report was taken at the scene and the vehicles were towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer and local dealer were not contacted. The failure mileage was 4,000.

I was easing slowly into a parking space, with plenty of room on both sides (no cars); there was a shopping cart at the front of the spot to my left. I was probably straightening the steering wheel back to the center. The car took over, accelerated suddenly to a very fast speed, jumped a high curb, and stopped hard in the lot's main drive. The front right wheel clipped a tree through the mulch. No safety features engaged. There was significant damage to the vehicle, and the impact badly bruised my right hand. I am very safety conscious, easy on the pedals, and cruise into stops. We have used the travel assist but not the cruise control function (which may have been set when the car was in transit). Several similar cases are reported on social media, with the leading theory being the accidental engagement of haptic steering wheel controls. A police officer took a report, but it has not been made available. I filed a report with the manufacturer and look forward to your investigation.

Twice after picking up the vehicle from the dealership for a recall or service I've stopped at the light near the dealer. On seeing green in accelerate and mid-way through the turn power will fail. I release the accelerator pedal once or twice and power returns.

My ID4 windshield chips very easily and in fact i have had it for less then 1 year and small rocks on freeway damaged windshield and had to replace it out of my pocket. Even after getting new windshield it-??s chipping again. The glass is hazardous as i am afraid it will break easily when compared with other cars. Cars speedometer turn off due to VW software glitch while driving so in the middle of freeway drivers would have no idea on speed and can cause accidents.

While trying to set cruise control, this vehicle has the option of standard cruise or adaptive. There is a toggle button, however, is is so sensitive I am never able to toggle to standard cruise. Naturally I am driving and the toggle will not go to standard. Poor design and super sensitive feature. This is one of many different features that do this. I have found my eyes moving to this to see if I can get standard cruise on and it does not happen. I give up because I do not wan to keep taking my eyes off the road.

I brought my 2023 Volkswagen id.4 Pro S EV to the Volkswagen dealer where the vehicle was purchased new earlier this year. This service visit was for the routine 10,000 mile inspection. Upon leaving the appointment, I drove out of the exit driveway of the dealership and made a left turn across a 5 lane road. Shortly after pulling out into the road (at approximately 15-20mph driving in "B" regenerative mode) all acceleration ability ceased despite my foot depressing the acceleration pedal. I had no ability to accelerate for about 3-4 seconds, leaving the car drifting in the middle of my turn. It wasn't until a few moments later after pumping the pedal that the acceleration ability returned. No warning lights or other changes were observed. I called the dealership about this, and after about a week they responded with "I spoke with the EV technician, he noted that because we plugged in the scanner to do the 10k service, it may have reset the basic settings of the E-motor. He noted it is normal for that to happen as when the engine dies and comes back on, it's the vehicle resetting the basic settings again. So it should not happen again." Meanwhile, I posted about my issue in an id.4 owners forum online and received 25 responses stating others had experienced the same concerning problem after a service visit. If VW dealers are releasing serviced vehicles to customers knowing what they are about to experience (momentary loss of acceleration upon first drive after visit), this represents a serious safety hazard. Fortunately, in my example, I was in a low-traffic scenario where the momentary loss, while panic inducing, did not cause me to impede traffic. However, if the road had been busier, my sudden and unexpected deceleration could have easily caused an accident. I feel very strongly that I am lucky nothing happened to me, and I also feel that the nonchalant responses from the dealer AND VW's corporate Instagram help chat were alarming and inappropriate.

I was driving down the interstate and the entirety of the electronic screens froze up. The data presented on the screens was frozen and all the touch buttons froze. With no access to any controls, in a downpour, I was unable to adjust the climate control, turn on the defrosters or have any idea how fast I was going. I proceeded to stop on the interstate, thinking I could shut the car off and restart it to reset the controls, but that did nothing except get me soaked and risk my life being stopped on the side of the highway. This car has a seat activated power on and off so it comes on when you sit down and shuts off when you get up (which is a stupid idea anyway) but upon exiting the car and even locking it with the FOB, the vehicle would not shut off or reset. Soaked, I got back in and continued down the highway with no defrosters or climate control and arrived at my meeting. I was unable to shut the car off so it ran through my lunch then I made the same journey back home, 100+ miles down the interstate with no speedometer, climate control or defrosters. Once I arrived home, I disconnected the battery which did reset the system and displays. I suppose I better carry tools with me to be able to disconnect the battery on the interstate, next time. This is disgusting to me, that VW would not provide some kind of reset option in a very dangerous situation like this. During my event, I called both their -??roadside assistance-?? and customer service, WITH NO BLUE TOOTH, and neither of them were able to help me in any way, except tell me to pull over and have it towed.

I have never been in an accident in my entire life, never got pulled over by a cop, and have only ever driven one car prior to the vw. I always have my car in -??B-?? mode. During the crash on 4/02 I was going about 40 to 35 mph coming off the highway tried to slow down more to 25 to go on the roundabout but it wouldn-??t, I had the brake collision assistance on, but unfortunately it did not assist me in trying to stop, even when I pressed down on the brake pedal completely. When I tried to turn the steering wheel, that had locked and I was unable to avoid hitting the sign and curb and going over the cement median which cause both my left tires to go flat. I got a call from the Volkswagen SOS and at that time the person was talking to me, I had to maneuver my car off the cement median to move it to a safer road as I was in the middle of a dangerous place and it needed to be towed. The road I had the incident on is the one I take to work every day and I have never had an issue. There was no issues with the weather on that day ether. I have only driven this car 703 miles.

On April 22nd the car was in an accident when it struck the rear of another car at a red traffic light. I had stopped at the light with car in -??B-?? drive mode and the brake on Auto Hold. I was stopped at the light roughly 2 minutes with my right foot on neither pedal. The car was in Auto Hold brake mode as I recollect the Auto Hold indicator being illuminated. The car remained stationary during that period until it moved forward without any action from myself. I am convinced I did not hit the gas pedal. There was damage to both my car and the car in front. There had been no change of the traffic light light nor had the car in front moved when this occurred. I had not experienced this issue in my limited driving before the accident (1700 miles) or subsequent to the accident. I contacted the Volkswagen dealer following the accident and dropped the car off for them to investigate. They advised me to open a case with Volkswagen of America to get their involvement which I immediately did. Volkswagen CARE assigned a regional case manager. The dealer service department performed a 3 mile test drive and could not reproduce the problem. Volkswagen of America did not investigate the accident relying on the dealer service department to use the on-board diagnostics to read fault codes. They found two fault codes that required the replacement of the ICAS1 module (the vehicles primary computer) and the driver door handle -?" the latter was not related to the current recall on the vehicle. These were manufacturing defects and they stated were not the cause of the accident. I find it concerning that Volkswagen of America did not investigate the accident for product issues nor did they explain (when asked) why a faulty major component that controls the operation of the car could not be the cause of the accident.

I was passing on a highway ant high speed and the car shut down. It gave me about twenty seconds to coast to a stop on the shoulder before it completely turned off. This happened twice.

While I was pulling into a parking space in a parking garage, the car suddenly accelerated to a high rate of speed and crashed into the wall of the parking garage. The front and side air bags deployed. The crash caused significant front end damage to the car. The passenger (my husband) was not hurt but I have bruises on my head, nose, chest, and abdomen from the steering wheel and seat belt. I was not sure that I had caused the crash, so checked the internet for any information and found that this has occurred to other drivers of this car. I have not yet gotten the read out of the car's black box. There were no warnings or messages before the crash. I am currently arranging the towing of the car.
