You drive down the road and the window drops down into the window well. Lucky it didn't shatter when it feel. I expect all the other three windows to do the same as it appears to be a shrinking rubber mount on the channel at the base of the window that releases. Perhaps because the rubber is getting hard with age. Loosen the bolt, sand the rubber to remove any film on the rubber and put the window back in and tighten the bolt back down. Of course this is after you remove all the door panels which usually breaks a clip or two sending you back for parts.

we like the car very much it is dark green and is parked in the hot sun all day on hot days the car is very warm to sit in going home so opening the window is a sure thing that is when the plastic bracing the window fails and falls in the track and "falls down and cant get up" ha ha it is miserable to drive with a broken window on some of the hottest days of the year allways failed on the very hot days we met another person at the dealer with the same thing on the same car allways buy a white jetta and your troubles will go away this has been a ongoing problem the driver window failed 3 times and the rear seat window window did the same thing the rear driverside door window is complicaded just like the driver door window dont recomend r &r this on a hot summer day was so mad about just jammed a piece of wood in the track to fixit

then we loaned the car out and the window was opend by mistake "s n a f u" for sure had to fix it on a road trip to sanfrancisco wont go up wont go down so the window failed 4 x in 3-4 years still the best car the most fun so to offer a fix for other jetta owners get a white car or park "down hill "of the Sun on hot days or open the shady side of the car till u get cooled off great car stop speeding 80+ on the freeway at 5am dont ask about the speeding tickets over 85+ and the safest car great avoidance manuverability

My front passenger window had fallen off of its track, and I was able to push it back up and it stayed... For a few days. It happened to fall off its track again, and this time it proceeded to fall completely into the door. While on the freeway. Wonderful. It's winter, its below freezing, and now I need to figure out how exactly I am going to take apart my door panel in order to get my window to go back up. I am a single mother, this is my only transportation and I don't quite feel like driving around with a broken window with my daughter in the car.

I have a VW GLX with ultra low miles and now have come to experience the "dreaded window drop of death" during the worst winter in more than 20 years. Any way it so happens that this is a very well documented issue with 99-05 Jetta & yet there is no recall. Hundreds of VW Jetta and Golf (& who know how many other models) have had to have this repaired sometimes more than once (one woman had to have is repaired atleast 5 times!). Apparently the regulator clips were poorly designed and the plastic construction can not handle enviromental thermal stresses. I say this because these failures seem to increase in the winter when any moister gets into the door and freezes and even in the very warm summer months. The plastic clips can't take the enviromental caused loads and failure is the only option. At that point the weight of the window is no longer supported by the clips and the window drops all the way down in to the door. Where potentially is can break or be scratched by the other components.

I was told that there is an extended warranty repair but it does on apply to my year? It looks like the repair for just the passenger side window is going to be $350+. One mechanic told me that he tells vw owners not to even touch the windows in the winter? VW wants to charge me $120 +tax to verify what I already know.

I would really like to know how many VWs total have had to have this repair.
