This is the second time I have had this problem. Factory Volkswagen coil packs are known to crack and get moisture inside. This causes a random/multiple cylinder misfire. The check engine light was flashing and it ran horribly. The first time, I couldn't afford a factory coil pack (around $400) so I replaced it with an aftermarket one. Bad idea. About two years later, had the same problem. This particular coil pack didnt crack, just became too weak to fire. Replaced plugs and wires and first and it got better, but after a couple weeks, it got bad again. Replaced the coil pack with a OE one this time and it runs great.

This is just one of many, many problems with this car. Check engine comes on about every three months, while keeping to the factory maintenance schedule. ABS and check engine light came on at same time last week, had car repaired and one week later the check engine light came on again. The power windows haven't failed yet, but I'm sure that's just around the corner. Why haven't I sold it? I've got so much money into this car I've got to try and get my investment out of it. But will never buy another VW. I think a used Yugo would have been a better car.

This Volkswagen Jetta has been in the shop continually for mechanical problems. Just in Nov. 2008 alone, it was in the shop 3 different times totally 2800 bucks. I have it in the shop a minimum of 5 times a year for none maintenance work every year that I have owned it.. since 2004. I purchased an extended warranty and it has saved my life. I consider this car the worst car possible. Cute, but it is so costly. I would never buy a Volkswagen again. I am not kidding. It is in the shop constantly.

I had the catalytic converter replaced twice, once before market and then once with authentic VW stuff. They replaced oxygen sensors, etc. Finally the mechanic told me to just drive it which I do. Sometimes the light goes off, but it always comes back on again. Other than this, I love the car.
