Only VW could sell a car that has a failed flywheel, a part buried so deep inside the powertrain it takes countless hours to reach and repair, not to mention that the part alone was nearly a $500 item. Like all of their well known screw ups, they failed to step up to the plate. Maybe when a class action is started they will act like a company that cares about repeat customers.

You can hear a chattering when the engine is idling. The problem can either be ignored or it can be a catastrophic failure. If you choose to replace the flywheel then you are talking about a major expense. Mine occurred at a point where if it fails, I will need a new transmission anyway. I didn't fix the problem, and it is still there, however, it isn't a catastrophic failure and just the DMF springs are cracked.
