Jetta SE 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 49,999 miles

My car is in mint condition with only 49K miles on it. I have had a handful of electric issues as far as headlight bulbs one goes and you replace, then the other one goes and needs to be replaced, also happens when replacing bake tail lights or turn signals. Now I am have door lock issues with the passenger back door. It won't lock when pressing the key fob. so then the alarm won't set. Now the new one is my car key is stuck in the on position with the car running. Its been like that for a week now. In order to turn my car off I took out the fuse for the fuel pump, which shut the car off.. then I detached the black terminal for the battery so as to be able to shut the car off.

Jetta Wolfsberg

  • Automatic transmission
  • 80,300 miles

In a nutshell, I went to the store just fine but when I went to start the car - the key would not go in to the ignition. At all. This was not a case of it not turning in the ignition, this was a case of the key simply would not go in. I tried jiggling, prying, punching, lubricating, anything I could think of - nothing worked. It looked like there was a part of the inside of the mechanism that had fallen across part of the opening.

After getting it to the dealership (which is the only choice for repairs, this deals with a proprietary security issue only VW will handle), the service guy told me he handled this same issue two weeks ago for someone else. I was informed I'll probably have to replace the ignition switch, which takes about ten days to come in, at what cost - I don't yet know.

Curious, I went online to look if there was a recall about this issue. There is not for this vehicle, but there's been three recalls for the Routan for ignition switch issues. I also found no shortage of people just like me having this same exact issue with the Jetta, dating back to 2005. I wish more people would post their complaints here or take it to VW, as I plan to do, to get a recall in place. This is unacceptable. VW is aware of faulty ignition switch issues in their vehicles and need to address all vehicles effected, not just the Routan.
