Jetta 2.5L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 51,000 miles

Just bought this car from a dealership 2 months ago. We haven't even put 2,000 mile on the car yet and the check engine light came on. I talked to my mechanic after I bought the car and he told me these cars are notorious for MAF sensor failures and that it is not an easy fix. In fact he won't even work on this problem due to his past experiences with this exact problem. Now I have to take it to VW and they will have to replace to whole throttle body and reprogram the ECU. Kinda funny how my mechanic warned me if this problem and wasn't even time for an oil change before this happened. Seems like VW has an issue with this problem and the fact they haven't done anything to rectify the problem such as recall or offer cheap solutions and charge over 1000$ to fix the problem and has to be done at VW to reset the ECU tells me they are doing this on purpose to make as much money as possible on repairs that should only cost a couple hundred dollars... Completely Not satisfied with VW will never buy one again, will never recommend one to anyone in fact will campaign to boycott VW at all costs!!

Jetta LX 2.5L V5

  • Automatic transmission
  • 39,775 miles

After the initial engine sensor was replaced by local mechanic in Houston, two days later the "engine indicator light" came on again...so I returned to shop owner, and he told me his mechanic had replaced the easiest sensor to reach & that it in fact was another sensor, not as accessible to reach, that was the issue.

They then replaced that sensor ...1 day later the "indicator light" came on again. This time the owner told me after I returned w/the car, that the 2nd sensor they replaced was "faulty" and they then replaced it with a new sensor at the owner's expense. Two days later the "indicator light" came on again & I drove to "Auto Zone" to get their opinion & they told me it takes 75-150 miles for the computer to clear, after the sensor is replaced.

Well, I returned to tell the original shop owner, & he then said I might have an electrical problem & kept me there 5 hrs. & in the end told me I needed a new "relay switch" & he replaced! Quite frankly, as a woman, I was so frustrated w/the entire experience...then I saw on your web site that VW Mass Air Flow Sensors are an issue, etc. The "engine indicator light" is still on after 150 miles...so I'm going to have to go to another mechanic and try & determine if the correct sensors were replaced, since the issue has not been resolved! HELP!
