Was turning right onto a backroad, shifting from gears 1 to gear 2 hitting 22 mph. Lost all acceleration, had to pull over and turn vehicle off, smell of smoke but no visual, let vehicle sit, checked oil, coolants, all perfect. Smell went away, attempted to start vehicle with hood open, checked engine with vehicle on, movement of 1-2 inches from engine rocking severely. Turned vehicle off, towed to dealership.

Entire fuel system was replaced along with hpfp. Manufacturer paid for all repairs. Fuel was tested and no foreign containments were found.

First incident in July 2011 but same ongoing issue and at the dealership at least 8 times in 11 months. Currently at the dealership again for almost 3 weeks now. Its always the same "symptoms" but always told its another problem..... as follows: -sputters and jerks -exhaust or gas fumes overcome the car -engine revs but the car wont move, then jolts forward. -stalls when trying to start, it jerks violently making a putting noise as if it can't get fuel then dies. -there's a beeping noise coming from something in the engine when it stalls that no one seems to know what it is. I have replaced: -intake manifold -all fuel sensors -low pressure fuel pump -high pressure fuel pump -melted fuses with unknown cause -two batteries -other smaller items related to fuel system.

Vehicles check engine light came on and loss of power died in middle of road towed to dealership and it was covered for warranty they replaced the whole fuel system due to contamination, now not even a year later less 15,000 miles they loss of power again, dealership has had my car for 2 weeks they didn't know whether or not they were going to warranty it they said it had a failed fuel injector. Still do not have car back.im beginning to wonder if there wasn't more wrong than just a fuel injector, maybe the high pressure fuel pump was at fault a second time, and they just didn't want to tell me.

I was driving up a hill in a neighboring town and my car lost all power almost instantly. My ""mdf" read "engine fault workshop" and my glow plug light (since this is a diesel powered vehicle) started rapidly flashing. I was able to shift the car to neutral and coast to the top of the hill, then once reaching the apex of the hill, coast into a grocery store parking lot. My car was completely dead, and I had to tow it to the dealer.

While replacing fuel filter cartridge I found metal shavings in the filter housing. The next will be high pressure fuel pump failure with the heavy fuel system contamination by metal shavings as per common scenario. Should be not pleasant experience. VW should concentrate on fuel filter/system routine check up and offer preventive maintenance.

High pressure fuel pump failed at 52000 miles. The entire fuel system was replaced with a warranty on parts of 12000 miles. After 15000 miles I experienced issue with high pressure fuel pump again. The fuel line from high pressure pump to fuel rail was replaced.

Vehicle stopped running at highway speed. After tow and refueling car failed to start and run. Taken to dealer for service and informed that high pressure fuel pump was defective/had failed. This problem seems to be more than common for these tdi vehicles. Volkswagen of America refuses to offer assistance with the matter and will not acknowledge that these pumps are an issue.

Glow plug light and engine fault workshop light came on as I was pulling into work in a.M. parked and restarted vehicle, with no further warning lights. I made appointment for scheduled maintenance with dealer. When I left for home that evening the vehicle started ok with no warning lights. While driving down the interstate freeway at 70 mph the same warnings suddenly came back on and vehicle suffered immediate decrease in power with speed down to about 50 mph. I exited the interstate and tried to make it to the VW dealership, but engine shut down when I stopped at stop sign and would not restart. Vehicle was pushed to the roadside by state police and had to be towed. VW mechanic found that the high pressure fuel pump had failed with excessive metal shavings found throughout the fuel system. A diesel fuel sample was sent for testing and was okay. Dealer had to replace the entire fuel system.

Car would not start. Luckily parked in garage. Towed to dealer. Determined to be hpfp failure and dpf failure. Hpfp and dpf replaced along with associated small parts. But did not replace entire fuel system. A fuel sample taken from the fuel return hose when the car died looks like fine metallic particles. Settled to the bottom of the jar after several days. A magnet did not attract the particles so must have been aluminum - most likely from the piston bore of the hpfp. VW paid for the repair. The day I got the car back I took a fuel sample from the fuel tank. Once again metal particles (along with other debris normally found in a fuel tank) were found. Now we are fearful of driving the car due to metal particles in the fuel system will destroy the new hpfp. Please make VW do a recall and replace the pump with a new design that will not self destruct! a car that should go 200K miles or more has failed at 67K miles. And is guaranteed to fail again due to the poor design of the hpfp. This is a huge financial hit for our family as now we are fearful of driving the car and may have to sell it to get a more reliable car. VW is blaming the problems on fuel contamination and that may be true but there is no excuse for a huge repair bill from one tank of fuel that is not up to specs.

I contacted VW mid-August 2011 because my car broke down while I was driving and then I could smell gas. I had it towed to VW and there was a problem with a leak in the fuel rail. All four fuel injectors had to be replaced, as well as the gaskets, fuel rail, and spark plugs. This repair cost me approximately $1,100. I have enclosed a copy of my bill showing the repairs done and total cost of repairs. When I contacted VW in mid-August I was informed by them that there are no problems with the Jetta fuel injectors and that it is not their fault that I have the a lemon of the bunch. Very poor customer service skills with all VW personal I have spoken with. I now enclose the recent articles about the fuel injector problems with the VW vehicles. For some reason this recall only includes the diesel engines-which clearly should not be the case. I am requesting reimbursement for this repair as it is related to the same problems VW is having with the diesel-engines per the enclosed VW article on recalls. This vehicle should also be included in the recall.

I took it to two different mechanics and both stated that there was gasoline coming from the exhaust there could have been an explosion. After reading online the commonality of this problem seems the vehicle has an issue. What happens when it happens again I pay the full amount.

Driving to the neighborhood post office, the car stalled with the glow plug light coming on as well as "engine fault" being displayed on the display. The car would not start and was towed to the dealership. It was determined the fuel pump failed and metal particulates were found throughout the fuel system. Dealership replaced pumps, hoses, and cleaned out other parts fuel may have touched (I.e.,fuel tank) and covered the work under warranty. The service manager informed me it was over $4,000 worth of parts alone. He did confirm the fuel pump is covered under the powertrain warranty.
