About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The latch on the driver side has become loose. As I was driving over speed bumps, I noticed the door would rattle hard. I pulled to the side and noticed the latch attached to the car was loose. I tightened up the screws and the door was able to close tightly again. A few weeks later, the problem has occurred again. I tighten the screws, but this time, the door cannot close fully. This is worrisome, because what if the door swings open as I am driving? this is a major safety concern!

This incident occurred while we were stopped. I was trying to get my 3 year old out of the car when the door wouldn't unlock. Because we have children, we also use the child safety locks to prevent the door from opening from the inside. The locks hare repeatedly failing to either lock or unlock. What concerns me is that there would be an emergency situation in which the doors would not unlock and my child (or children) would not be able to get out. A quick internet search shows that this is a recurring problem with some of the Volkswagen doors. If you do not have the child safety locks engaged, this becomes much less of an issue. However, these locks could lead to a very unfortunate situation with a small child in the back seat, unable to be removed from the vehicle.

Automatic door locks fail to work. Manual entry must be gained to vehicle and doors opened on all doors other than drivers by pulling on inside handles. Unable to access trunk without grabbing long hanled stick and accessing trunk emergency opening latch through back seat arm rest trunk opening. While investigating for a possible blow fuse it was noted that VW fails to provide a fuse map/diagram for these cars in the owners manual and on the back of both the underhood and in car fuse panels. VW explains this away in the owners manual on page 324 as a decision they made due to the " constant ongoing development of the car" beyond the issue with the locks I believe that failing to provide the owner of the vehicle with the fuse maps could have poetential ramifications as an owner may be unable to solve a simple technical fault on their vehicle thus hazarding themselves and others. Inspection and changing of fuses is owner level maintanence/troubleshooting and Volkswagen should be made to provide that information to owners. If you web search VW fuse diagram or map you will see hundreds of complaints. Thanks for your time.

While driving the windshield wipers would randomly creep up the windshield and when the wipers got all the way to service mode, all the doors would unlock. The radio would fade in and out and the when adjusting the sound on the radio loud cracking, popping and static should would come from the radio speakers.
