Jetta 2.0L TDI

  • Automatic transmission

Forums claim it’s a fairly common failure. From what I’ve heard, it’ll just be making noise for now at idle as it currently is doing for me(kinda sounds like misfiring), but can eventually cause issues as the internals come looser. Engine bearings can wear quicker from the unbalanced flywheel, and in extreme cases it can hit the bell house and take a hole out of the transmission. May also start shaking extremely violently and become undriveable. I have high mileage so this may not be a manufacturer issue, but I’ve seen others have the same issue much earlier.

Finding someone willing to work on a small European diesel sedan in America is a huge challenge, and the ones that will charge a fortune. As of right now, it’s just a bit noisy and shakey, but it’s got the potential to kill the car.
