The contact owns a 2010 Volkswagen Jetta sportwagen. While driving approximately 40 mph, the vehicle stalled and was unable to be restarted. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The independent mechanic contacted mag Volkswagen (6335 perimeter loop rd, dublin, oh 43017, (614) 389-5556) to assist with the diagnostic test. The contact was informed that the high pressure fuel pump failed and needed to be replaced along with the entire fuel system due to metal shavings in the fuel pump and fuel line. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 190,000.

The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer brandon Volkswagen located at 9816 E adamo dr, tampa, fl 33619 was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not part of the recall and the contact had to pay for the repair. The manufacturer was not contacted and was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available....updated 10/13/17

Catastrophic malfunction of high pressure fuel pump with metal shards in the fuel system. Fuel was not contaminated. The vehicles mil light came on while driving on the highway, was able to steer the vehicle off highway.

Engine began to run rough and glow-plug light illuminated. Within 3 miles the power diminished and check engine light came on. Stopped for a stop sign and the car stalled in the intersection and would not start. Dealer has identified metal in the high pressure fuel pump.
