April 2021 I was turning around on a 2 lane road and heard a loud noise come from my steering column. Immediately my airbag light came on, and the controls on my steering wheel and horn stopped working. I took it to the dealership to have it evaluated and they said that my Clockspring needed replacing. I figured that it was my fault b/c I was turning the wheel so far to try to turn around on the 2 lane road. I drive as part of my job so I needed my airbag to be fixed asap. SO, $560 and a week later, my airbag/horn/controls are working again.

Fast forward 1.5 years and when turning in to my driveway, the steering column made a loud noise and the airbag light came on. EXACT SAME ISSUES AS LAST TIME. My steering wheel "clicks" when I turn the wheel now. I called the dealership to report the issue. I am out of the 1 year part warranty and now the fix will cost approx. $750. To fix something twice that according to everything I have read on clocksprings, shouldn't need to be replaced during the life of the car. This is a serious safety issue! I looked up recalls on VW airbags, and my vehicle model is a year outside the recall. VW Service couldn't have cared less when I called and reported that this has malfunctioned again despite having it fixed less than 2 years ago. So I Googled clockspring repair and will be ordering a new clockspring online and attempting to fix it myself.
