we bought a 2001 VW Passat for our college age son. The car had 67,000 miles on it when we purchased it, we have all oil receipts since we have owned it and they are all within Vw's recommendations (5000 miles). We of course don't have receipts for the first 67,000 miles, so of course Vw is unwilling to do anything to resolve the issue! We have found the customer service to be completely incompetent as they allow their dealerships to be the "fall" for all bad news.....the dealerships give you the impression the VW will make good on their 8 year, unlimited mileage warranty (doesn't this kind of suggest that they are aware they have a big problem with these engines??)The dealership calls VW and Vw denies the claim leaving the dealership with the duty to report back to the consumer. The first denial we received was because out oil receipts were not stamped "paid"...then when the customer rep from Vw came out and realized that we bought the car used and didn't have the original receipts for the first owner..they denied for that reason. Does anyone out there that has bought a "used" car know how to obtain original main. receipts? We bought the car from a dealer and they are of no help. There is currently a case to see whether there is enough evidence to open a class action suit, hopefully there will be some new information on whether this will happen soon.

At first my car started making a constant ticking sound that got worse over time. Along with the ticking came smoke. Eventually the car began to lose power while I was driving it, I had to pull over and shut it off. It hardly made it off the road. It had to be towed and we are still figuring out the problem.
