Faulty Ignition Coils, The Volkswagen Dealer said the problem was with the Ignition Coils, and that they had a recall on them, but the car had over 12,000 miles on it and the recall did not cover it because of this. I brought this vehicle thinking, I can count on the Volkswagen Brand; they claim how reliable there brand is, and I had all the previous maintenance records on this Passat. Plus the person who sold the Passat to me, I have known well before she brought the car brand new. The previous owner took great care of her car, and whenever it require maintenance she had it done. Since I have all the maintenance records of any work done on this vehicle from the original owner of this car. Which she had a Volkswagen dealer do all the oil changes, and whatever the car required as long as she owned it. There was no major work done on it, except the required maintenance that Volkswagen service book told you to have done after so many miles. Example: she had the timing belt changed, the serpentine belt changed and so on. So I brought this car for my son to go back & forth to college, thinking how reliable the Volkswagen Brand is suppose to be. According to my Son the car began to shake so much so that he thought it was going to break down right then and there. It began with the car 'shaking', yes shaking, like it was going to stall any minute. Then the engine light started blinking on and off. He was at a red light as the light turned green and he pulled into the intersection the car both felt as if it could stall and accelerate at the same time. Talk about a safety hazard! He called me and informed me on what was taking place, I told him to drive to the nearest Volkswagen dealer. likely it was not to far from the school and by the the time he got there he was petrified. The car had not stopped shaking the entire time. With my son being in North Carolina and I being in Rhode Island there was nothing I could do about the recall, which should of covered this problem. I through Volkswagen stood by there vehicles, it is oblivious a faulty impression they give to the unknowing consumer. Volkswagen should honor the recall no matter what mileage is on the vehicle, and reimburse me for the expense. Also I just had the engine oil changed with the synthetic oil they suppose to use at the dealers. But now I read something about oil sludge, does this happen to all 2002 Passat's?

THE SPARK PLUG COILS ARE A BIG PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, I WENT AHEAD AND REPLACED 2 COILS, VEHICLE RAN OK FOR AWHILE, THEN STARTED MISSING AGAIN, THEN I REPLACED THE REMAINING 2, THE OLD COILS I REPLACED HAD A DATE OF 2009, THEY SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN 2 YEARS,
