(reported on)

Passat GLX 2.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 31,000 miles

At 1500 rpms and in 5th gear, the transmission starts to hunt for a gear. It jumps from 5th to 4th, back to 5th and back to 4th constantly every 1.5 seconds. You can see the rpms raise about 100 rpms and then drop 100 again, then raise 100 and then drop. When accelerating slowly from 1500 - 2000 rpms this happens constantly until you go above 2000 then it seemed to stop. The constant up and down shifting or what appears to be up and down shifting has got to be taking a tremendous toll on the tranny and other associated parts. The powertrain warranty is up in 5 months so this BETTER be covered.
