The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Passat. The contact stated that an abnormal dragging noise was heard from the front of the vehicle while driving through snow. The contact in inspected the vehicle and discovered that a fractured plastic component and the zip tie holding the fuel tank and fuel was consuming prematurely. The manufacturer advised that NHTSA campaign number 08V156000 (fuel) was performed however the failure was not corrected. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was not available. The failure and current mileage was 80,000.

The contact owns a 2004 Volkswagen Passat. While driving 60 mph he smelled fumes in the interior of the vehicle and the check engine light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to local mechanic who tested the vehicle leaks and found that the fuel tank ventilation valve was leaking due to a fracture. The manufacturer was contacted and stated that NHTSA recall #08V15600; fuel system, gasoline: Delivery and vwoa recall no. 26E5/R5 were related to the failure; yet, his VIN was not included. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 57,000.

2004 Volkswagen Passat with recall for fuel tank inspection. Customer states that he had gotten the component in the fuel system replaced at his expense before the recall. He would like reimbursement. Volkswagen stated the repair invoice the consumer submitted did not contain the parts that matched the parts identified in the recall.
