I bought a used 2010 VW Passat with the 2.0T engine and the 6 speed automatic transmission. Within a month of buying the car, I started noticing pink fluid dripping (coolant) in my driveway. I could not identify the leak. Within a week it was leaving large puddles of coolant in my driveway. I took it to an independent mechanic and found it was the auxiliary water pump. Yes, there are two water pumps on this car. This pump is plastic and the casing had cracked. I had the pump replaced. Cost was about $400 as the pump itself is $260.

After purchasing a used 2010 VW Passat with a 2.0T engine and a 6 speed automatic transmission, I started having problems with engine coolant leakage. A previous complaint identified a leak on the auxiliary water pump. About a week later, I again was getting coolant dripping into my driveway. This time it was the main water pump. Again...a plastic pump. Again...replaced the water pump. My mechanic identified this as a common failure on the VWs because there is a problem if any oil drips onto the water pumps. The plastic casing doesn't like it.
