problem #3

Passat SEL I5

  • Automatic transmission
  • 25,000 miles

Driver door would not lock or unlock with key fob. First problem was the door not unlocking, sent to Dealer and was charged $50.00 CPO Deductible for them to say they couldn't recreate the problem, TWICE. So I made a very clear (verbal) video of my Wife trying to get in her car to no avail. I tried reaching over from the other side, but you could NOT open the door from inside. Then the door wouldn't lock after the second trip in, I think they just took the actuator out. When I walked out one morning and just tried to open the door, it did open but the alarm also went off. Back to the Dealer flipping out, this time they had an actuator on the shelf. Was this the one they had to order while it was there last time???

No more problems with the lock to date, but other issues continue to plague the car. Going to meet with Head of Service tonight to search for resolution and go to Court in 15 days to see if VW has to honor the offer for Full MSRP on another VW of same or greater price.

This is my 4th Passat (1 was a Quantum), and by far is the most problematic car I've had. I'll try to add my lock video later.

Update from Sep 12, 2017: Here is the video required to have the problem repaired. Yes, I got a little smart sounding, but it was well deserved.

Passat SE Tdi

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,000 miles

In cold conditions the key fob will not operate the locking system (sometimes). You never know when it will happen when it is cold. It may not lock or it may not unlock. I bought the car used and the first time I was locked out, I tried the key on the drivers door and it did not unlock the door (This is the only keyed spot on the car - stupid). We had to get a locksmith to unlock the door this day. VW did replace the drivers door lock so I can unlock it with the key now, but still on cold days it is a crap shoot if it will unlock or not. It works great if its not very cold. (32 or below)

Passat SEL 2.0L Tdi

one door will not lock, period

I have not turned this problem in to the dealer yet, but I will definitely tell the dealer when I take the car in for the first problem of the steering warning light remaining on. This is the second problem with this BRAND NEW car VOLKSWAGEN. My wife is already wanting a new replacement car. Can't blame her as when you pay big money for a nice new car you don't think your first stop will be back at the dealer's for car problems. I will update this as I find out more. Make me happy Volkswagen and fix these two things before it's too late and I go worldwide with this news.

Update from Apr 10, 2013: My update for April 9, 2013 is got the car fixed at dealer by replacing control/convenience module. Now, my wife's key will not work on our keyless car. The dealer has to reprogram her key. I tried to re-syncronize the key by the book, but it won't sync because of the new module.
