When I turned on my 2013 Passat, it moved, but the steering was difficult to maneuver. Luckily, I was driving home on back roads with few cars parked along the street. I called the VW dealership to describe the problem and they told me to pull over and get the car towed. I was 5 min. from home, so I drove slowly toward the curb, so I could pull over if I could not turn. It was very difficult and scary not to have control.
The car has been serviced on time, at the VW dealership, since I bought it 4 years ago. The 36,000 mile warranty is now expired. It was explained to me that the rack and pinion steering was at fault and metal had gone in the system. They offered to fix the problem, and offered me a discount on service and parts. Although that is helpful, I believe that the steering rack and pinion is defective and I should not have to pay for the repairs or service. I could have gotten into an accident or even worse. I would like to know if the manufacturer will cover these costs.

VW Passat is a piece of sh*t. Unreliable, stupid junk car. Very unsafe to drive.

Steering column will not work per the dealership it's the housing and tumble, will have to order the parts from Germany. There are no recalls for the 2013 Passat. It wouldn't unlock the steering wheel or let the key turn. Nothing in the steering wheel column works. Car towed to dealership for out of pocket repair. This shouldn't be happening to a 2013. It's a manufacturing issue that needs to be recalled at VW's Cost.
