In spite of the highest level of additional warranty coverage, Volkswagen covered none of the costs associated with drains in the engine compartment becoming clogged allowing water to soak the interior. Their owner's manual warns owners against doing any work in the engine compartment and their service schedules do not provide for removing the cover over the drains and checking to see if they are clear.
The local dealer in Smithtown, Long Island, NY did all of the ongoing maintenance on the car from date of purchase to the beginning of this problem at 30,000 miles. I sued in small claims court and was only awarded $300 in damages, and Volkswagen had the nerve to send a corporate representative to assist the dealership in defending against my court action.
Both the local dealer attitude and the corporate philosophy of Volkswagen of North America demonstrate that they have no sense of obligation to the customer and I will never buy one of their products again.
