Passat Wolfsburg 1.8t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 34,000 miles

I recently purchased a used black 2015 Passat Wolfsburg Edition 1.8T (still under factory warranty). I made this purchase as the dealership was closing and unfortunately the lighting, or lack thereof, did not expose the horrific flaw with the paint on the hood of my beautiful new-to-me car.

As I was showing my car off a few days later, I stood at the front fender and realized that the "raised" area of the hood had roughly 1/2 inch of pretty shiny VW black paint and then faded into a dull black/grayed color. At first I thought it just needed a good waxing, however after further investigation it is the paint job that is the problem. I took it to the VW dealer and the Service Manager popped the hood and informed me that the under side of the hood was not even painted or sealed.

The vehicle has a clear Carfax history and there is no indication of damage to the front end. This leads me to believe it came from the factory in this condition especially since I am not the only person with the same issue. Reminds me of the Pontiac Sunfire paint issue with the early 2000's models where every car you see has a faded/flaky strip down the hood, roof and trunk. Been there, done that.

I am paying too much for a vehicle, which is still under factory warranty, to have such a horrible paint job. Has anyone else noticed this problem? Any advice on how to proceed with VW for resolution?

Passat LE 1.8t

  • Automatic transmission
  • 650 miles

A brand new Passat came from the factory with a very annoying flaw in the paint on the hood. Some dealership on the way to the customer tried to buff it out . They made it worst and it sticks out like a sore thumb. My fault, I did not take a close look at the paint when I bought the car. It's one of those flaws you can only see at the right angle / light.

My VW dealership has contacted VW for warranty work over two weeks ago - still no word whether or not VW is going to pay to have this repaint done. I love this car , but it shouldn't take this long to give me an answer about repair .
