The clock spring broke just prior to Christmas 2021. The first available appointment at dealership was January 12th. We were out of town, but dropped the car off before we left so we could get the appointment. Having no power to the steering, no horn and potentially no airbag is disturbing when driving on the highway. VW is paying for a rental for us-obviously not the same caliber as our car. We are in our third rental, soon to be 4th because these rentals need service.

We went to the dealership to check on status of the clock spring. It is May 12th now, 5 months at the dealership, and all they can say is that the parts were made in Ukraine. Not sure if this is true or not. That's how I found this site-trying to see if the parts are really made in Ukraine. Even thought about trading the car in. The offer that we got from VW was less than HALF the Kelly Blue Book and Carfax Values. That was purely insulting and at lease this dealership has lost all of my trust. Who knows if I'll ever get the car back?

My understanding is that a clock spring is supposed to last for the life of the vehicle. Certain VW models/years have a recall for this issue, but not mine. It's going to cost me between 400-500 dollars to have it replaced. It's not something I can choose to not have repaired because it's causing my horn to not work. If VW has been having this issue with many of their models, I shouldn't have to dish out the extra money. I pay enough for this vehicle.
