I recently bought out my lease after having my car for a little over a year and a few months. Upon my routine pain in the ass service (takes 2 hours for a oil change when the VW emails/ business cards and banners all say 45min or less no appointment necessary-- I always schedule my appointment); I was advised that 2 tires need replacing asap and the other two should be replaced shortly after (before the end of 2018). I just now hit 20K miles and did not replace the tires because I knew this should be covered under warranty.
I asked the manager and service advisor if it would be covered and they laughed at me and said no, no, no.. They advised there are so many variables with tires (air pressure, balancing, rotations, road conditions, driving style) that they would not cover any tires under warranty because its virtually impossible to prove that the tires are defective. I asked them why the f*ck would I pay them $800 to replace tires on my brand new car and requested it to be covered, they insisted on me paying for the tires so I got my oil change (1.5 hrs later) and left.
I wrote my check to buy out my lease in August 2018 and I wrote a very detailed letter about this experience at my last service; I went into detail about having them look up my service records to prove I am in the service area every 7k miles and the dealer was trying to rip me off. I requested a call or email or letter (some type of communication) about my issue with my tires; I requested to have them HOLD the check until they reach out to me to discuss my tire concern; VW cashed my check and sent me my pink slip/ bill of sale ONLY; I never received a call/ letter or email regarding my concern, they just took my money and left me with a brand new car with BAD/Defective tires- not to mention I also included I drive my toddler around all the time and commute on the freeway 40miles (no road issues)- the fact that they ignored my inquiry, ignored my safety concern and cashed the check/ wiped their ass with my letter really pisses me off. I service my car every 7K at the dealer when they recommended every 10k. I always treat my cars with care and the fact that VW cannot take my safety concern seriously really pisses me off.
