Routan SE 3.2L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

My 2011 VW Routan, while driving on 45 mph speed suddenly reduced it's speed to 20mph and "Air bag" "battery" & "ABS" lights turned on. Luckily I had some space to pull over and vehicle stopped. I had to tow this vehicle to Grease Monkey (As it is close by) near by, Initially they though the problem is with battery and replaced it. I took my vehicle out of repair shop and see the problem happened again. I had to tow my vehicle again to Grease monkey in the second time they though it was issue with alternator and replaced it. I drove it for 3 miles again had the same problem. By this time I had spent more than $500 and don't want to spend any more on it at grease monkey, This time I towed it to the dealer and they said it is TIPM issue and replace would cost $1500 bucks. Heard Chrysler for this issue on their vehicles recalled for the part. Why wouldn't VW also recall for this sort of problem as it is more dangerous and had an this sort of issue on 100,000 miles car!

Some Chrysler vehicles have a recall on the TIPM. The Routan should as well given that it is based on the Chrysler brand. It is outrageous that I have to pay for this repair. To add insult to injury I have been told that it could take up to 6 days to get the part in-house. We are both working parents with 3 children so this makes our day to day extremely difficult.

Routan V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 46,000 miles

Classic symptoms of a Chrysler TIPM. The engine often cranks but will not start, stalls when driving. Other electrical systems appear weak at times (dim lights, quieter horn) This is a Chrysler Minivan marketed as a VW. I cant believe they haven't issued an immediate recall as this seems like a HUGE safety issue

Routan SEL 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 75,000 miles

I purchased this van in 2012 with 10,000 miles. In December 2015 with approximately 75,000 miles, the fuel pump would not turn on and/or would stay on once the van was turned off which would kills the battery. The van has not stalled while driving, but the engine has begun to stutter as if it was not getting fuel. I was told by VW dealer service department they need $120 to diagnose the problem.

If the fuel pump relay on the TPIM is bypassed, the fuel pump works properly. Dealer service department stated the only repair was to replace the TIPM, an expensive repair.

If VW does not stand behind their product, I will never be their customer again. I can not afford to transport my family this van and it stall on the roadways.

Routan SEL 3.6L

This car was actually manufactured by Chrysler and sold by VW. The initial problem seemed to be related to a faulty fuel pump. The car would try to crank but not start. It actually stalled as well. We took it to a dealer who continued guessing at the problem and finally replaced the fuel pump. Luckily I had mechanical breakdown coverage and only had to pay $250 out of pocket. However, after the "fix" I've had the car back three times for the same problem with no solution.

This week, the fuel pump started running even when the car is off. I did a search and found out about the ongoing TIPM problem with Chrysler. This seems to be the same problem. I'm taking the car back to the dealer this week to see what they can do. Incredibly frustrated that Chrysler sells this crap and takes no responsibility. VW says they stopped selling these vans because of all the problems. Not my problem since they sold them to begin with. I just want someone to take responsibility.
