It is very frustrating when your vehicle will not crank. It eventually cranks after many attempts. I took it to a VW service repair man only to find out it was not covered under my extended warranty. So $1176. dollars later it seems to be fixed.

After replacing the "faulty" transmission range sensor, the no starting problem continued intermittently. This fix made no sense to begin with. If the range sensor is telling the car it is in gear it will not allow the starter to activate. Logically, when this sensor goes bad, it will tell the car not to start because the car is not in park even though it is in park. This has not been the case. The starter always cranks. Typically, the engine will start on the first try but will stall when the RPMs reduce to idle. After that the starter will still engage but the motor will not start.
Eventually, the problem got worse to the point that the car rarely started on the first try and we had to take it back in again. Now (June, 2016) they (VW Service in Roseville, CA) are telling me the Totally Integrated Power Module (TIPM) is bad. Same problem, different component being replaced...
I will be adding this as a second entry (complaint) shortly...

Car will not start at least 50% of the time unless the ignition is turned on, the shift lever is moved to neutral, then the ignition is engaged with the key fob.
