This is the forth water pump failure for this vehicle within 28,000 miles. Like clock work after approx. 7,000 miles on a new pump, it blows apart. The shop I had used was great in standing up to the repairs and was willing to replace again...but instead, decided to trade this clunker in. So we were well equipped with a gallon of antifreeze and after three stops and four refills, our Tiguan issues were solved and we traded it on a brand new JEEP. Absolute shame this car had so many quality issues. When it drove, it was a nice ride, but overall costs way too much to keep it on the road.

Car stalled while driving. Replaced the battery, got it home. Power steering went out, water pump needs replaced towed it to Volkswagen dealer to see if they could reset any of the modules for the battery, nope! $3000 in repairs.

Water pump repaired in March of 2016 and again Nov of 2016. 7,000 miles between those repairs. Here we are again May of 2017 after 6 months and approximately another 7,000 miles, and the water pump has failed again. Called VW demanding they assist with getting the car to the shop and a loaner vehicle, but their 'Advocate' only gives you reasons they refuse to help. Pumps are cheap pieces of plastic that they continue to throw at these vehicles with 2.0 T engines. You buy a VW thinking you are getting a safe/reliable vehicle. Not very safe when my daughter can't keep it on the road and obviously not very reliable. Will never step foot on another VW dealers lot.

I own a 2009 VW Tiguan and the water pump has been replaced 5 times, its the worst car I have ever owned.
as much as I liked the car at the beginning I will never buy another VW. I thought about trading it in for a new VW
but I don't trust those vehicles anymore.. PLEASE DONT BUY VW THEY ARE THE WORST CARS IN THE MARKET!!!!!

Low coolant level warning led to the discovery of a failed water pump. Based on this site, it appears to be a common problem with this model. Apparently it's MAJOR surgery to get to the water pump, and our local German auto repair shop charged accordingly.... nearly $900 for the fix. The mechanic told me the newer model-year Tiguans have a recall out for their water pumps, but the '09 does not. This infuriated me. I will never buy another VW. Sticking with Honda/Toyota from now on.

Hearing it may be an ongoing issue with the vehicle and today I have another coolant leak..Hoping it is not the pump again...after reading blogs today it may very well be the issue.

My car is in the shop for the 3rd time on this water pump. June 2013, March 2014 (luckily under warranty) and now today June 2015. Not sure what my mechanic will say. They fixed it the first time, fixed it under warranty the second time and it appears I'm out of the warranty now. This 09 Tiguan has given me nothing but SEVERE ISSUES from early on.

Two weeks after radiator was replaced the water pump developed a leak. Separate dealer from dealer who repaired radiator made diagnosis. VW had no response except to say the vehicle was out of warranty. How coincidental is this situation? Both these dealers got paid to fix the same problem a different way over a two week period. Is it a poorly performing car or a dealer's license to print money?
Every 5000 miles or so, there is a new problem. My last car was a 95 Nissan that went 273,000 miles with <$1000 in repairs over the life of the vehicle.

My initial water pump failure occured in June/July 2014. 7 months after replacing the pump, I have to replace it again! It cost me almost a grand to fix it the first time. The mechanic replaced the leaking part. But this time, the coolant just falls right out of the hose! Not even a year and this happens! Another grand to fix it? DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT! HATE MY CAR!

I bought this vehicle in may of 2014 in June the water pump went out, and the water pump has been replace in Oct 2013 and Feb 2014 this is an on going problem. I feel I purchased a lemon. The dealer wants me to pay over a 1,000.00 to get it fixed - that is horrible. The water pump has been replaced every 3 or 4 months.

Four water pumps and no answers on why from VW. They fixed it even out of warranty because it failed almost annually since I bought the car new. They extended the warranty but I hope the engine is not damaged. 4 x!

This was the second water pump failure in less than 5000 miles! Replaced first water pump in March '13 with 66k miles (extended warranty) and then again in July '13 with 66k miles (parts warranty). Asked if this third water pump was a newer model or if I could expect this one to fail also and the service manager did not know. He also stated that he receives defective parts for VW 'all the time'. He went onto say that Honda, etc also have these problems , implying I should not be upset - all cars have these issues ! Wow...can't believe they let this guy talk to customers!

This is the second water pump I've put in my Tiguan. This one only lasted 11 months, just enough to be out of warranty! This car eats water pumps!!
