Tiguan SE 2.0tdi 140

  • Manual transmission
  • 55,859 miles

Just thought I'd report that I have just experienced a clutch failure with my 2012 Tiguan 2.0 TDI 140 at just under 56,000 miles.

No warning, just a sudden failure with the clutch pedal going straight to the floor when changing gears.

Fortunately it happened at low speed in an urban area and I was able to push the car in to a nearby street parking bay to await recovery.

The following day my service engineer called with the news that it was a "clutch collapse" and that the gearbox casing had been breached!

Before giving me the ‘good news’ he said that with the damage being so severe they had contacted VW to see if they would be willing to make a good will contribution towards the repair but they refused.

Very annoyed that a clutch has failed after only 56k miles even more so that the gearbox was damaged in the process.

Vehicle may be over 5 years old but it has been maintained by the VW dealer that supplied it and the annual mileage is low (just over 10k a year). Nor is my driving style to blame! I am not a reckless driver and consider myself to be a good driver who is a long standing member of The Institute of Advanced Motorists.

With no alternative, I have had to okay the repair by the VW dealer and am now awaiting the delivery of the parts (i.e. replacement gearbox and clutch assembly) for the work to go ahead next week.
