This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Volkswagen dealer.
May 20, 2020 - Started the Tiguan in the grocery parking lot. EPC light came on with max 3,000 RPMs warning; Tiguan suddenly had almost no power. Limped the 2 miles home.
May 21 - dealer replaced sensor; picked up on 5/27 and EPC light still on
June 2 - dealer replaced wiring but EPC light remained on; notified me that they would need to replace camshaft which is on national backorder
September 12 - Tiguan is still sitting at the dealer waiting on parts. I've opened a case with VW but I get nothing but unhelpful and poorly written emails from the "Region Case Manager"; today the dealer offered me a trade-in (on a new Honda) based on the auction value of the Tiguan. So, basically, VW cannot fulfill their warranty but I take the hit on the trade. Mulling it over before I agree to the trade.

VW needs to step in - it seems like a well knows issue. EPC light comes in and car goes in limp mode out of nowhere... can't drive and if you're on highway, you could be killed.
