Tiguan Limited

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

I've had my Tiguan for a little over 3 years and have only put 20,000 miles on it. It's a very lightly used car. I was pulling into a parking space in front of my office, I heard a plastic crunching sound as a turned the wheel and then the airbag error light came on. Since I know my car is still under warranty and I know there have been several recalls related to Volkswagen airbags I brought it into the dealership. They determined it was a failed clock spring and would need to replace the entire steering control unit, a part on back order with no current delivery ETA. For such a lightly used and relatively new car, this is an unacceptable failure point. There was nothing I could have done to prevent this issue and it's apparently something many other Volkswagen owners have dealt with. Beware of buying a Volkswagen.
