I was driving down the road turned off one highway onto another and heard that loud crack. Thought it was a flat tire. Got out checked the tires and realize it was coming from underneath my vehicle. Had to tow the vehicle to a repair shop to only found out that the rear driveshaft was faulty. Had to have the entire driveshaft replaced. Was informed this is not a normal thing that should have occurred. There should be a recall on these vehicles for that very reason!

Noise started on the highway, sounded like I had a flat tire then rattled under the car. I stopped and saw nothing. When drove off slow it did not make noise, but as you go faster it rattled louder. This is a well known defect by VW that should have been a recall. The wanted to replace the whole drive shaft even there’s nothing wrong with it. It was simply a bracket failure holding it. I ordered a Drive Shaft Clamping Bearing Support Mount that is a permanent solution. Never failed again.

Can believe that to fix the problem the complete cardan (Drive shaft) have to be changed. Why just replace the center bearing and that it?! Any help will be appreciated....

loud noise underneath car - broken drive shaft
It was very frightening and scary to drive when it started. I had to leave my vehicle at a gas station. Most dissappointed with the dealership. I do believe that this is something that they should have seen when they service the car three weeks prior to the issue.

I heard this loud thumping sound coming from under the vehicle. At first I thought it was the interstate but when i started driving on freshly paved road, I knew it was me. I thought it was my tires but it wasn't after checking once I got to my destination. When I did a quick run to get something to eat, it was not the tires but something under the truck. I barely made it back to this house with the help of AAA because the noise was scaring me!!! I took it to a major car repair place (not the dealership) and was told it was the drive train and this is a common problem on these cars. Really!!! I did not know this!!! $2000 on a new part for a 11 year old SUV!!! Wow!! Thanks VW!!
