My wife along with grandson was traveling out of town when check engine light came on and RPM's dropped. They were stranded until I could get there. Called Volkswagen assistance and they had rollback pick it up to deliver to Volkswagen dealership. They would only cover to nearest dealer which was Tallahassee FL. I had previously called that dealership a number of times and lost a half a day. I ended up paying the towing company the difference to deliver car closer to home in Valdosta GA.
There they found water in air filter compartment, filter had broken up into pieces so water and trash sucked into engine intake causing damage. To the extent we don't know at this time.
Sure hope Volkswagen is going to cover repairs. It is still under warranty.

This is a design issue, water flow from the headlight and is funneled in the air intake and sucked in a vacuum.
VW was "shamed" in China due this potentially dangerous design flaw, resulting in a recall and a fix, from what I could find online. I, like all other Touareg owners, want The "PART" used for the fix so we can drive our cars in the rain.
